Hokkaido Space Summit 2025 Officially Announced

  • PRESS RELEASE

Co-hosted by the Hokkaido Government, the two-day event will be held on October 9–10 in Obihiro, Hokkaido

The Hokkaido Space Summit Executive Committee (Chair: Yoshinori Odagiri, CEO of SPACE COTANCo., Ltd.) is pleased to announce that Hokkaido Space Summit 2025, a space business conference, will be held on October 9 (Thu) and 10 (Fri), 2025, in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, with sessions themed around the Hokkaido Spaceport (HOSPO) located in Taiki Town.
This year’s event has been extended to two days, allowing for a significantly expanded program. In addition to highlighting the current state and future potential of the space industry in Hokkaido, the conference will also focus on human resource development, a key challenge facing the global space sector.
The event is once again co-hosted by the Hokkaido Government and will feature approximately 30 speakers from both Japan and abroad. Registration opens in late August 2025.

Theme

This conference marks its fifth year and this year’s theme is “Hokkaido is a Stage for Challenge – Let’s Envision the Future of Space.”
We aim to significantly advance space-related industries in Hokkaido, centered around HOSPO – a spaceport enabling frequent launches. Achieving this will require the further participation of companies and stakeholders.
Currently, rocket development, launches, and tests are actively underway in Hokkaido, and with strong support from both national and regional governments, the space industry is on the verge of taking off. At the Hokkaido Space Summit 2025, we will hold talk sessions and lectures on topics such as current space policies, the state of the space industry, trends in overseas spaceports, regional revitalization through spaceports, and the cultivation of space talent. We hope to introduce participants to the potential of Hokkaido’s space industry and encourage many people to join us in designing the future of the space industry.

Mission Statement

From launch pads and runways, a variety of rockets are taking flight.
Anchored by the spaceport, the space industry is beginning to take shape across the vast lands of Hokkaido.
The future envisioned by pioneers 40 years ago is now steadily evolving into reality.

Taiki Town, Hokkaido—this land offers world-class conditions for next-generation space industries:
favorable launch trajectories to the east and south over open sea, expansive terrain, and high rates of clear skies. The foundation is in place, and momentum is growing.
At the heart of it all are those who continue to challenge boundaries—and those who support them.

This is the stage where dreams of space turn into reality.
Through the launch of rockets and satellites, HOSPO will integrate into both industry and daily life, expanding a ring of prosperity from Hokkaido to the world.

Let’s draw the contours of the future.
From Hokkaido, let’s design the spaceport—and the business beyond it—together with the world.

Expanded Conference Program: 15 Talk Sessions and Lectures

The main event, the conference, will be held over two days, featuring a significantly expanded program. A total of fifteen talk sessions and lectures are planned. The first day will focus on space business, with sessions led by professionals from the launch vehicle and overseas spaceport industries. The second day will center on human resource development and recruitment in the space industry. After the conference, a meetup (networking event) will be held with some of the speakers and participants.

Message from the Executive Committee Chair

The Hokkaido Space Summit is a valuable opportunity for government agencies, research institutions, companies, and other stakeholders in the space industry to come together, share their visions for the future of space in Hokkaido, and explore new business opportunities. Over the past four events, participants have recognized the great potential Hokkaido holds for the development of the space sector.

Today, the momentum for building a space industry hub in Hokkaido is stronger than ever. Rocket launch tests and related R&D activities are actively being conducted by both domestic and international companies, while initiatives to nurture space talent and foster space-related businesses are emerging across the region.

Through this fifth summit, we aim to accelerate this momentum and serve as a catalyst for making space a new core industry for Hokkaido—together with all of you.

We look forward to your participation.

Executive Committee Chair,
Yoshinori Odagiri

About Hokkaido Spaceport (HOSPO)

HOSPO is a commercial spaceport in Asia open to the private sector, located in Taiki, Japan. For over 40 years, Taiki Town has actively attracted the aerospace industry and is regarded as one of the most suitable locations for a world-class spaceport, due to its geographical advantages: open seas to the east and south for launch trajectories and expansive land for future site expansion.
The suborbital launch site “LC0” is already operational, with private launch vehicles having reached space three times to date. To realize its vision of creating an “aerospace industry hub and ecosystem,” development is underway on a new orbital launch site, “LC1.”
In October 2024, Taiki Town and SPACE COTAN signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), committing to expand international spaceport collaboration with eight commercial spaceports located across five continents. In order to meet the growing demand for launches, SPACE COTAN will explore potential strategic partnerships aimed at establishing international spaceport standards.
Furthermore, SPACE COTAN was selected in January 2025 for the Japanese government’s Space Strategy Fund and will use the funding to develop ground-based technologies that support high-frequency launches of various launch vehicles.
In addition, in July 2025, jtSPACE Co., Ltd., a Japanese sister company of a Taiwanese company, conducted the nation’s first suborbital rocket launch funded by foreign capital at HOSPO.
