Facilities

Supporting private-sector space businesses from
development to launch

Hokkaido Spaceport (HOSPO) provides launch sites, a runway, and other facilities tailored for sounding rockets and orbital launch vehicles, catering to a diverse clientele. We also support various tests, including rocket engine firing tests, that contribute to the advancement of space development both domestically and globally.

Launch Complex-0

Launch Complex-0 (LC-0) is a launch and experiment site for sounding rockets that’s utilized by Interstellar Technologies Inc. This site is used for launches of their MOMO sounding rockets, as well as for engine firing tests for their ZERO small orbital launch vehicles.

Launch Complex-1

Launch Complex-1 (LC-1) will be a launch site for orbital launch vehicles. It will be designed for small vehicles and will include a launch pad, a small rocket assembly building, and a tank yard for supplying propellants and high-pressure gases to rockets and payloads.

Launch Complex-2

Launch Complex-2 (LC-2) will be a site for the frequent launches of orbital launch vehicles. Featuring multiple rocket assembly buildings and a launch pad, it’s planned as a shared facility for government and commercial use.

Engine Firing Test Facility (within LC-0)

The Engine Firing Test Facility is used by Interstellar Technologies Inc. for rocket engine firing tests. It’s located within Launch Complex-0 and is used for various engine tests of orbital launch vehicles.

Runway

1,300-m Runway

HOSPO has a 1,300-m runway and two hangars for storing equipment and other materials. The runway is available for the flight tests of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones, and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, as well as for small rocket launch experiments. The land, which extends for more than 1,000 m, can also be used for laser experiments, takeoffs and landings of small aircraft, and various events.

Taiki Space Community Center SORA

Taiki Space Community Center SORA is an exhibition facility where visitors can learn about Taiki Town’s space-focused community development initiatives, which began in 1985. Taiki is a hub for various aerospace experiments, including atmospheric balloon and aircraft experiments of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Visitors can see rockets from Interstellar Technologies Inc. up close. The center also provides insights into the current activities and future plans of Hokkaido Spaceport, which began full-scale operations in 2021.

Achievements

A hub for aerospace experiments by government agencies, businesses, universities, and others

HOSPO sees an array of aerospace experiments conducted by government agencies, businesses, universities, and others throughout the year, including rocket launches, engine firing tests, and experiments involving small unmanned aerial vehicles, balloons, and drones.
